My Fragrance Voyage: My Personal Views of Kiton Black, Saks Fifth Avenue and Tom Ford

My fragrance “wardrobe” needed to be updated since all of my colognes were getting a bit “old.” After reading many reviews, I narrowed my choices to three fragrances: Bond No. 9 New York Saks Fifth Avenue, Tom Ford for Men and Kiton Black.

I began my journey at Saks Fifth Avenue in the Fashion Show Mall, which is located on the fabulous Las Vegas Strip. Since these colognes were (and still are) very fine, I figured that Saks would have them all. My first candidate was the trendy store's namesake. At the Bond No. 9 counter, a tall and beautiful brunette greeted me. I told her that I wanted to try Saks Fifth Avenue for Men. She sprayed it on a Bond No. 9 sample fragrance card, gave it to me and I sniffed. I was very, very disappointed. At this price -- it costs about $185 for a 3.4 oz bottle -- I expected a lot more. It was too commercial. In other words, its scent smelled like most citrus mid-price fragrances on the market. I expected more complexity and wanted to smell the upscaleness of the store that it represented. The fragrance adviser saw my expression and she just told me that some people liked it while others didn't. Well, Bond No. 9 Saks Fifth Avenue was off my list.

After that disappointing moment, I asked about Kiton Black. She looked a little confused at first, and she asked another adviser about it. She sadly told me that Saks in Vegas doesn't carry it. I sighed and asked about Tom Ford for Men. She led me to another sales person, who presented this fragrance to me. She sprayed it on a Tom Ford sample sheet and gave it to me so I could sniffed it. This one was a winner and certainly was an improvement over his first fragrance, Black Orchid for woman. It was nearly on the same level as Chanel's Pour Monsieur or Terre d' Hermes. It was sophisticated, complex and very masculine. This citrus-based fragrance combined orange scents, spicy notes, tobacco and leather-like notes very well. I believed that Tom Ford had truly made a classic cologne. Of course, as a lover of men, Tom Ford should create a fragrance that would increase the sex appeal of all men. This one was obviously on my list.

So, I left Saks and headed towards Nordstrom to try Kiton Black. I remembered when I googled Kiton Black, the Seattle-based uber luxury store popped up, and its web site showed that it sold it. I went to the men's fragrance counter and asked an elegant middle eastern fragrance expert about Kiton Black. She found it and handed it to me. I sprayed it on a sample sheet. What was my reaction? It smelled better than Bond No. 9 Saks Fifth Avenue but it lacked the “wow factor.” It just smelled too mediocre for me. I'm just used to luxury fragrances that are more refined. So, I was disappointed by its performance, and I immediately left Nordstrom.

Which one is the winner, and which one will be added to my collection? Of course the answer to this question is obvious – Tom Ford for men. For more information about this fragance, visit tomford.com.

Reprint and Fragrance Education: Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy - a World of Aromatherapy - a World of Fragrance

By Angie Kocsi

The ancient Egyptians used aromatherapy thousands of years ago. Aromatherapy, a word that derives from aroma meaning fragrance or smell and therapy meaning treatment is based on an ancient principle that the spirit and the body should be in harmony. Hippocrates claimed that the secret to good health was to have an aromatic bath and a scented massage each day.

Aromatherapy, the healing art of using essential oils extracted from aromatic plants for therapeutic purposes is enjoying a modern-day revival. Extracted from fruit, flowers and tress, blends of these essentials oils can be incorporated for their healing properties and create a particular aroma.

Each essential oil used in Aromatherapy can be used either alone or in combination with other oils to promote health and a sense of emotional well-being. A full Aromatherapy treatment combines the beneficial properties of essential oils with a warm relaxing massage.

While essential oils are considered to be safe to use, they are very powerful, highly concentrated substances which should be treated with a great deal of respect.

Some of the most common essential oils and their effects:

Chamomile: Soothing and harmonizing
Clove: Warming
Fennel: Clearing
Eucalyptus: Balancing and stimulating
Grapefruit: Refreshing
Jasmine: Soothing
Lavender: Calming and healing
Lemon: Cleansing and stimulating
Orange: Calming and energizing

Before beginning any Aromatherapy treatment, it is important to understand how each essential oil works. Do not use any oil that you are not familiar with. Certain oils should not be used during pregnancy or when breast feeding. Consult your local professional for advise on which Aromatherapy treatment best suits your needs.

The List

Whenever I experience unfortunate events in my life, I always try to escape to a better place mentally. This may mean working harder at work, exercising my pain away or taking the time to relax. One of the best ways to escape, I believe, is by burning scented candles. They can have aromatherapy properties to help you relax and to rejuvenate your spirit. This week's list celebrate relaxation, escapism and candles. So, lower the lights in your favorite room, play pleasant music, light a scented candle, relax and let your mind go.

Reprint and Fragrance Education: Cheap Fragrances

Choose Wisely From Among Cheap Perfumes

By Candice Sabrina

Fragrance can do much to complement a beautiful outfit – whether casual or formal. A signature scent adds another layer to your look and helps define your style – clean and natural, sophisticated and elegant, edgy and creative; the type of fragrance that you choose to wear says a lot about you and is very reflective of your overall personality. And while some may think that it's necessary to choose a high-priced perfume in order to get the scent they want, it is not always the case. There are a variety of cheap perfumes on the market today - some of which can give you all that you desire at a fraction of the price of high-end, retail priced fragrances.

There are a number of classifications associated with cheap perfumes. In some cases, less expensive fragrances refer to those scents that are modeled after designer fragrance. It's like buying a piece of clothing that you may have seen on the red carpet and costs thousands of dollars – in a retail store where it's being mass produced and sold inexpensively. If you are in love with a designer fragrance that is just too cost-prohibitive for you to purchase, you may want to check out these lines of fragrance. They can most often be found in perfume shops and department stores.

Other cheap perfumes refer to the actual designer fragrance that is sold at a less expensive price. Some discount perfume stores will offer designer fragrance at a fraction of the price you would find it for at full retail value. And as wide a selection as these stores may have, you are likely to find an even wider selection in a variety of online resources. Buy wisely when it comes to online purchases however; you need to ensure that you are dealing with a reputable vendor who will give you exactly what you expect rather than a knock-off product. You may also be able to find a number of designer perfumes – at much cheaper prices – in duty-free shops along borders and in airports. Next time you take a trip, take a couple of extra minutes and do some shopping for your favorite fragrance.

Another reference to cheap perfumes is the lower quality fragrances that can be found for very affordable prices in drugstores and cosmetic stores. If you find a particular fragrance that appeals to you then by all means, buy it! Just know that the cheaper fragrances tend to wear off relatively quickly so you may need to reapply more often.

Fragrance can add a whole new level to your personal style; and finding that style often does not require a large financial commitment. Start off by finding the scent that most appeals to you. If it is a designer fragrance that you find to be cost-prohibitive, then search other retail outlets to find it at more affordable prices if available.

Ultimately, it does not make sense to sacrifice quality for price. There's nothing wrong with cheap perfumes if they work for you. But if the fragrance is low price and low quality – resulting in a less than desirable scent – it may not be worth the price you do wind up paying.

Reprint and Fragrance Education -- Online Shopping Mall Tips

Online Shopping Mall Tips: Choose the Right Fragrance for You

By Chris Robertson

If you've searched far and wide for that perfect fragrance at an affordable price, you might want to go just one step further to an online shopping mall. On the Web, you can find hundreds of great brand name fragrances at very affordable prices. But, before you go shopping for a fragrance at an online shopping mall, you must know which fragrance best complements you. Here are some great tips for finding the perfect fragrance.

Understanding Fragrances and their Scents

If you walk into a department store and smell several fragrances, please remember that the scent will likely be different once you take a fragrance out of the store. Why is this? Fragrance scents tend to blend with others in the store. Also, the fragrance has been in one environment with a constant temperature and humidity level. When you take the fragrance home, you are introducing it to a whole new environment. Therefore, the scent might be stronger or weaker than in the store.

Fragrance compounds in the perfume or cologne also play major roles in how well the fragrance will suit you. These compounds evaporate at different rates, making each brand of perfume or cologne unique.

Fragrances and Skin Types

Each fragrance will produce a different scent on various types of skin. For example, a fragrance that smells wonderful on your friend may not blend well with your skin type. Each skin type varies in the level of oil; some skin is always oily and some is always dry. Those with dry skin might also use lots of lotion on their skin, which can also affect the scent of a fragrance. What a person eats and drinks, the environment where they live, and scents that they are around most often can all play a role in how a fragrance will smell on their skin.

Test the Fragrance before Visiting the Online Shopping Mall

With this in mind, you should try out a fragrance on your skin for around a week to be sure it's the right one for you. First, visit a local fragrance retailer in your area to try out two or three fragrances on parts of your body that are far from each other. Try one fragrance on each hand and maybe one on your upper arm. Next, walk out of the store, even outdoors, and smell each fragrance on your arm and hands separately to get an idea of what each will smell like outside of the store. Just remember which one is which!

When you've picked the fragrance you like the most, visit your online shopping mall to buy the fragrance at a discount. Then, you can test it out for a week or so to be sure it's the right one - without spending a fortune.

Brand Name Fragrances

Don't be afraid to try out some famous brand name fragrances such as Chanel, Cartier, Capucci or Britney Spears. You'll be surprised at the prices of these when visiting an online discount shopping mall. The reason fragrances are so inexpensive at online malls is because many of them are selling fragrances at or near wholesale prices. The items are drop shipped from manufacturers so overhead costs are minimal for the retailer. Many of them even offer eBay dropship opportunities where fragrances can be bought and sold through online auctions at amazingly low prices!

Buying fragrances at a shopping center online mall is just like having your own fragrance warehouse at your fingertips. You never have to leave your home to buy your favorite fragrance once you find the perfect one for you. Online shopping malls offer many brands at great prices, so you can save money and find sweet-smelling fragrances whenever you want.
